Toy Building Brick Lego Patent Print

The Retro Patents Lego® Patent Print is a homage to a timeless invention by Godtfred Kirk Christiansen, dated July 28, 1958. Legos, honored as the “Toy of the Century” on two occasions, represent a legacy of innovation since the company's acquisition of its first plastic injection machine in 1947. The iconic stud and tube design, patented in 1958, exemplifies unique interlocking principles that allow for endless creativity and construction.

This patent print is available in multiple formats:

  • Print: Offered in sizes 12" x 18" or 24" x 36", using high-quality Epson UltraChrome HDR ink-jet technology, ensuring a bright and opaque image on 192 gsm paper with a 10.3 mil thickness.
  • Framed Print: These come with an Ayous wood frame from renewable forests and an Acrylite front protector, including all necessary hanging hardware, available in the same sizes as the print.
  • Canvas: A more textured and durable option, this 24" x 36" canvas is PH-neutral and fade-resistant, with solid wood stretcher bars and mounting brackets included.
  • Metal: For a sleek and modern look, the 24" x 36" metal print has a scratch and fade-resistant aluminum surface with true color replication.
  • Deluxe Hardwood: This high-definition hardwood print has a glass-like finish and a lifetime protective seal, removing the need for a frame, available in both print sizes and shipping only within the U.S.

The History

"Toy Building Brick"

Lego® Patent Print - Godtfred Kirk Christiansen, July 28, 1958

Legos have been named the “Toy of the Century” twice.  The Lego was born in 1947 when the company bought their first plastic injection machine.  The brick was not invented then but took final form in 1958 when the shape of the stud and tube brick was patented.  The interlocking principles make it unique and offer unlimited building possibilities.  In February of 2015, Lego replaced Ferrari as Brand Finance’s “world’s most powerful brand”.
