The Henry rifle was a lever-action, breech-loading rifle that was designed in the United States in the mid-19th century. It was named after its inventor, Benjamin Tyler Henry, who was an employee of the New Haven Arms Company, which later became the Winchester Repeating Arms Company.
The Henry rifle was first introduced in 1860, and it was widely used during the American Civil War. It had a distinctive brass frame and a 16-shot magazine that could be loaded through a trapdoor in the receiver. The rifle was known for its rapid fire capability, accuracy, and reliability, and it quickly became popular with soldiers on both sides of the conflict.
The Henry rifle was also used by western frontiersmen and lawmen after the Civil War, and it became known as the "gun that won the West." Its success led to the development of other lever-action rifles, including the Winchester Model 1866 and the Winchester Model 1873.
Today, the Henry rifle is still produced by the Henry Repeating Arms Company, which was founded in 1996. The company produces a variety of rifles and shotguns that are based on the original Henry design, including the Henry Golden Boy, the Henry Big Boy, and the Henry Long Ranger. These rifles are popular with hunters, shooters, and collectors all over the world.
